In the context of investments, forbearance is an agreement between the lender and the borrower (the Issuer), who may have defaulted on the loan by not paying interest (or interest and principal) when due, that delays a foreclosure. If granted, it typically occurs when the default is anticipated to be brief. Pertains primarily to debt.
